Where It All Began - Fostering Saves lives

Wendy and her husband grew up in Syracuse, NY and adopted their first dog Lily from a local rescue in 2005. Shortly after adopting Lily, they received a plea from the rescue begging for their help. They needed someone to pick up and help foster a litter of puppies that were living outside in freezing cold temperatures. So they jumped in the car and met a woman who handed over a cardboard box full of puppies. One of those puppies needed immediate medical attention to survive. It was at that moment when Pete and Wendy realized fostering truly does save lives. Since that day, they have fostered well over 50 dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. One of those foster dogs was Tucker, who found his furever home with them and is accredited to now being their mascot and brand ambassador for Touch of Grey.

Senior Dogs Rock - Touch of Grey Is Born

Wendy and her pack moved to Florida in 2015. Tucker and Lily were getting older, and much less tolerant of the high energy dogs she would often bring home to foster. So she started bringing home older and more mellow dogs that blended in better with the pack, and these senior dogs rocked! They didn’t dig up the yard, try to eat through windows, jump fences, or dash out the door like some of her past foster dogs. Most were content with a nice bed, a short walk, and a little attention. As an active volunteer at a local shelter, Wendy sees first hand how many senior dogs find themselves homeless. And seeing older bones laying on hard cement was just a little more heartbreaking than seeing homeless dogs of other ages. Wendy has spent the last two years fostering for Smiling Dog Rescue in Florida, however her desire to find additional foster homes and raise funds specifically geared towards getting more senior dogs out of shelters led her to start Touch of Grey in February of 2019.

Our Future - The Possibilities Are Endless

In a perfect World, every dog has a home. We dream of this perfect World. And while we realize we can’t save them all, we know we can make a significant difference in the lives of many dogs. Starting with one senior dog at a time, our goal is to change the lives of as many as we can. With enough foster homes, veterinary partnerships, and financial backing, the possibilities are endless.
